NYC Public Hearing on Bedbugs
Posted on the Yahoo! Bedbug Support Group site by Gail Brewer, NY City Council:
The Committee on Consumer Affairs of the New York City Council will be holding a public hearing on Intro 57-2006 ("The Bed Bug Bill") on September 18, 2006 from 1pm-4pm in the Council Chambers, located on the second floor of City Hall. Intro 57, as introduced by Council Member Gale A. Brewer (District 6: Upper West Side, Manhattan), would ban the sale of reconditioned mattresses and establish a Bed Bug Task Force of city agencies to focus on public education and bed bug eradication. City Agency officials, entomologists, and exterminators are invited to discuss the legislation and challenges New Yorkers are facing with relation to bed bugs. We would also like to especially encourage members of the public (within their comfort level) to testify on their personal experiences with bed bugs in order to increase public awareness and contribute their ideas on how to produce the best legislation to address this devastating epidemic. Pre-registration is not required to testify. If you would like to comment, please check in with the Sergeant at Arms at the front of the room and fill out a witness form. Your name will be announced by the Counsel to the Committee when it is your turn to testify. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Council Member Gale A. Brewer at gale.brewer@council.nyc.ny.us or Thomas Ferrugia (Counsel to the New York City Council Committee on Consumer Affairs) at loiferru@council.nyc.gov.I am hoping to go, possibly even testify, assuming I am still unemployed a week from Monday. Does anyone want to meet up and go as a group? Leave a comment below and we'll set up a meeting spot before the hearing.

HI-I HAVE POSTED ON bedbugsnyc blogspot as well...

I WANT TO GET INVOLVED POLITICALLY IN THIS.
I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS... I WILL RE-POST ON THIS SITE ANOTER POST, where i suggested 5 things the city can do...
including
1. IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL ASSITANCE FOR LOW-INCOME PEOPLE DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM (after proven inspection, etc)... think of people who do not have $ to move, buy trash bags, rubbing alcohol, sprays...DIOTOMACHEOUS EARTH (works like a charm, dirtworks.com), vacums...
this makes me feel grateful. i have my parents support $, in this struggle.
2. EDUCATIONAL LEAFLETS, that they send out for every other damn problem (recycling, leaf collection, "beetles", on PEST ELIMINATION/DETECTION/INSPECTION... especially for bed bugs.
EDUCATION, EDUCATION, EDUCATION!!!
TV ADS! on nyc tv!
ADS ON THE SUBWAY!
treat it like the public health hazard it is...
this can make people homeless... cause them to lose jobs. spend savings... etc!
it's dangerous!
