Mapping Infestations

My thanks to the anonymous user who sent me the link to this interactive map mashup of known bedbug infestations.

It might make a cool (yet somewhat gruesome) addition to Gothamist's growing collection of online maps.

Question? I spent the weekend in Florida on a retreat. A remote area. We were standing on the steps of one of the houses getting a group photo. I could feel somethimng bitting my arms and hand..I actually saw a small round red bug...now this was 2 in the afternoon. I came home Sunday night with welts up and down my arms. Not sure if was the bites from whatever was on the steps or bedbugs. They look awfully like bedbugs. I kept my luggage outside and washed all the laundry and the sheets not until Monday. These bites are crazy itching and it has been three days and the doctor gave me a ointment and steroids. I have them only on my arms and hands. I slept in the bed in shorts so why not bite my legs? any thoughts?

Why would they go for your legs if they were satisfied with your arms? They are very lazy and inactive and you'll know this if you try to catch one in the seam of your bed, so if the food is your arm and it is in roughly the same area every night then they would be very apt to stay put there.

I was a homeless Veteran. I worked my way out of the shelter system and landed in a Title 42 building. After I moved in, I learned the building is infested with bed bugs.

So what I want to do now is create designer anti-bed bug devises.

I want to create glasses to set the legs of the beds into, as bed bugs can't crawl up glass. For real. I tested it out. I have a bed bug captured in a juice glass as I type. So,

I am wondering what type of design to put on the inside of the glass?

Do you think just an image of a bed bug will catch on?

How would you sell a set of four anti bed bug glasses for.

Where is the best venue to sell anti bed bug devices?

I have also read that Tansey, Lavendar, Eucylyptus, Yarrow, and Rosemary are good bed bug deterants.

Would you pre mix the herbs and market them in fancy bags and baskets?

I have some of mine placed in those plastic balls usually used for cat nip.

I also keep some in socks.

Should I keep the sock theme?

I also steep Tansey in Apple Cider Vinegar 1/3 to 2/3 for three weeks and then strain it and use it to rinse my hair. Bugs hate the smell of it. I do too!

What do you think? Would selling Bed Bug Items at a street fair go over or not?
