Update

Hello everybody.

Well, it's been a week with no post. Time flies when you're not being bit by bedbugs. A whole week has gone by with no sight of the paper-thin little blood-suckers, no new bites or any kind of skin irritations. I ran into my super a few days ago and he will be sending someone in to caulk up the cracks around the apartment to ensure that the bedbugs STAY OUT, but other than that, bedbug activity has been nil this week.

At least in my apartment. There have been some signs that other people in the building are still suffering. A few days ago, I saw a desk chair sitting outside the compactor room and almost took it upstairs since I really need a nice desk chair since Billy broke the one we were using, but thankfully a thoughtful person had taped a sign to it saying that it might contain bedbugs. No, thanks. I'm not taking that chance for any stinkin' desk chair. I also saw a couch, loveseat, and mattress sitting out by the curb around the same time. It's looking like others had a much more grim experience than I did. Which makes me cringe a little, because what I went through certainly wasn't pleasant. I thought two or three months was a long time to deal with bedbugs. This has now been going on for close to five months for some of my neighbors. I really hope this gets cleared up soon. Of course, the more time that goes by without erradicating them, the better the chances that I get reinfested, but I'm just going to continue to enjoy this peaceful time and hope for the best. Maybe I'll have moved out before the reinfestation begins. There's always hope.

Anyway, I hope the rest of the bedbug-afflicted world is doing well. All my best, as usual.

hey,
i am sending you my moral support from toronto. i've tried everything possible - throwing away my furniture, laundering, pest control, caulcking, etc but it did't work out: they live in the wall. also, i was shocked to hear from other tenants that they had the similar problem but overall they don't bother!!
finally i've decided to change my apartment (i was sick of living among huge garbage bags in which my laundered clothes were protected) and now i feel fine. no more sedatives, no laundering, no anxiety attacks, no welts.
if you need any advice please re: to this.

best,
m.

ps. don't be surprise if they reappear even after one year. the only solution is demolition of the entire building.

m, oh man, that sounds terrible. i'm sorry you had such a horrible time with this, although i cant think of a "good" experience with bedbugs. it sounds like moving has done the trick, though, i hope!

i wouldn't be surprised to see them again someday, but i'm trying to hope that they're gone because i love my apartment and i worked really hard to find it. i think i hate moving as much as i hate bedbugs. only time will tell. for now... all's quiet on the western front. (fingers crossed!)

thanks for posting!

i keep my fingers crossed for you caitlinator. i also worked hard to find my apartment, but after i saw them again i just went crazy and decided to change the place. after all, i came to canada to study and not to fight with bedbugs.
the worst thing is that other tenants didn't seem to care. the super was also trying to hide the fact that our building was infested. i was also sure that the exterminators didn't do a good job: every time they spent approx. 5-10 minutes in my place!
try to wake up around 3 or 4 AM if you really want to make sure that there are no bedbugs in your place. in my experience, they usually go out to feed around that time.

Anonymous, you should check out the Bedbug support group on Yahoo. Click the link in the sidebar - you'll find that you are most definitely not alone.

As for me, I had a great exterminator and an even better super, who made sure that not only my apartment, but my neighboring apartments were treated as many times as it took to get rid of them for good. Others have solved the problem by moving. But check out that group. Hopefully you will find some good advice and suggestions there.
